Development of the industry economy

Outpatient and inpatient care facilities generated a gross value added of 43 billion euros in 2019 (outpatient: 18.9 billion euros; inpatient: 24.2 billion euros). This puts nursing care in third place in the healthcare sector, behind hospitals (69.5 billion euros) and medical practices (65.6 billion euros). With an average growth of 8.3 percent per year over the past ten years, outpatient care has the highest growth in the health care industry & care sector and is even far above the growth of the health care industry itself at 4.1 percent. However, the Corona pandemic has also highlighted the shortage of skilled workers in the nursing and healthcare industry.
